The 2nd Gliding Camp was flown on the midsummer week at the
Räyskälä field in very satisfying weather.
During the five practise days we had 5 to 15 pilots in the
morning briefings. Some of the pilots flew their own ways, but most
of the participating pilots picked up the organisation task-sheets.
We had 44 reported tasks.
Altogether the camp-pilots flew an amazing 17,000 kilometres.
Longest tasks were flown on the 23rd of June – N2 with 835
kilometres and EZ with 735 kilometres!
Another nice indicator of good weather was the average speed,
which was mostly above 100 kmh.
We started the day with a morning briefing – weather forecast and
airspace information. The pilots were also given 2 to 4 task
alternatives. I also got many requests from late arrivals by radio,
concerning the day’s info.
This year we were lucky with the airspace. Our camp was on the
official contest list to get the maximum airspace. The Finnish Air
Force started their midsummer holidays very early this time. It made
it possible for us to fly around Tampere TMA for two days.
The feedback we received from this kind of “guided holiday
activity” was very positive. We were requested to consider this kind
of service for next year as well, also for the weekends in May.
Well, we shall see!
We are looking forward to meet again at the 3rd International
Gliding Camp at Räyskälä!
